Types of Slow Bowling – Off spin

OFF SPIN BOWLERS

The bowlers who does pitch the ball in and around the Off stump or in Line or outside the Off stump Line and turns it into the batsman hitting the wickets.

This type of bowling always deals in and around with the Off Stump, thats why they are called as Off Spin Bowlers.

The speed of Off Spin or any other spin bowling generally ranges from 70 to 95 kmph.

Some people get confused in understanding the difference between Off Break and Off Spin.

ACCORDING TO SOME CRICKET INTELLECTUALS OFF SPIN AND OFF BREAK ARE DIFFERENTIATED IN THIS WAY :

Off Spin bowler is who does spin the ball on any surface in this part of the world like even on a Fast pitches which doesn’t support spin.

Fast pitches

Australian, South African, and England pitches.

These Off Spin bowlers are mostly wrist based spinners. The wrist based spinners generally can spin or rotate the ball more than compared to Finger based spinners (Off Break bowlers). They spin the ball mostly with their wrist rather than Fingers. It rotates more with wrist rather than Fingers.

The more the rotation of the ball the more it spins. There by they spin the ball on any surface in this part of the world.

Example

Muthiah Murlitharan etc. Off Break bowler is who does spin the ball on pitches which support the spin.

Example

Indian sub-continent pitches. These bowlers feel difficult in spinning the ball on Fast pitches like Australian, South African and England pitches.

As they are mostly finger based rather than wrist based, they spin or rotate the ball less compared to wrist based spinners (Off Spin Bowlers). They spin the ball mostly with their Fingers rather than with their wrist. It rotates less with the Fingers compared to with their wrist.

The less the rotation of a ball the less it spins. There by they spin the ball only on pitches which support spin.

Example

Saqlain Mustaq, Harbajan sing, Chris Gayle, Shoaib Malik, Virender Sehwag etc. In Fast pitches due to this less rotation of a ball, the spinning seam of the ball will not be able to get nice grip or contact with the pitch (Nature of Fast pitches), there by skidding on the pitch with out any nice rotation, resulting in Less Spin.

These Fast and Skidding pitches generally kills the rotation of a ball.

Where as if you are wrist based which has more seam rotation, it over comes the skidding and Fast nature of the pitch and the spinning seam of the ball will be able to get nice grip or contact with the pitch due to more rotation, there by nicely rotates after hitting the pitch resulting in nice Good Spin.

ACCORDING TO SOME OTHER CRICKET INTELLECTUALS OFF BREAK AND OFF SPIN ARE DIFFERENTIATED IN THIS WAY :

Off Spin may be defined as the collection of different balls or variations such as Off Break, Doosra, Top Spinner (Off), Quicker, Off Slider…. etc.

Just it can be compared in this way that is its a armory with different arms such as Off Break, Doosra,…….etc.

That means Off Break and other arms are part of Off Spin Bowling.

Now Off Break bowling is defined normally as the ball which pitches in and around the Off Stump or in Line or outside the Off Stump line and turns it into the batsman hitting the wickets irrelevant to nature of pitches.

Weapons of Off Spin

Off Break, Top Spinner or Over Spinner (Off), Doosra or Wrong One or the Other One, Slider or Side Spinner (Off), Shooter, Skidder, Arm ball or Quicker.
