Line and Lengths for Arm Ball – Off spin Bowling

Line and Lengths for Arm Ball

Arm ball is a quicker or faster delivery in a off break or left arm spin bowling which actually skids on with out much turn after hitting the pitch.

It is a delivery where the arm plays the major role rather than the spinning fingers in skidding the ball after hitting the pitch. This is the reason why we don’t see any spin on the ball during its travelling in the air.

Line and Lengths for Arm Ball

For a RHB generally arm ball can be pitched in and around the off stump line but the best line to pitch the arm ball would range from between, the middle stump line to good outside the off stump line.

And arm ball should be a flighted delivery which should be pitched between 2 to 4 yards of length measured from batting wickets.

It should be a flighted delivery since the batsman can think it as a regular turning delivery and it should be pitched in little bit fuller length because the batsman gets very less time or very less reaction time in judging what actually the ball is.

Ball pitching in extreme outside the off stump line gives the bowler only chance of getting outside edges to wicket keeper or slip region, some times can get top edges if slogged.

Ball pitching in good outside the off stump line gives the bowler good chance of getting outside edges to wicket keeper or slip region and also Lbw’s, getting bowled can happen if a ball skids on into the wickets.

Getting outside edges to wicket keeper or slip region, getting Lbw’s, getting bowled can happen most of the times if a ball pitches just near the off stump line.

Similarly as said just now, getting outside edges to wicket keeper or slip region, getting Lbw’s, getting bowled can happen most of the times if a ball pitches on the off stump line.

Ball pitching in middle – off stump line or middle stump line gives the every chance of Lbw’s, gets bowled if it skids on straightly or with less turn, but if it turns more from this middle stump line to outside the leg stump line there will be less chances.

At the end of the day the best line to pitch the arm ball for a RHB would always range from between the middle stump line to good outside the off stump line.
